While improvisation has always been an important part and the center of drama, it’s definitely not easy to understand the core of it. Improvisation can be used in life often when something is not according to plan. Those situations will eventually occur, and not only once. No one is able to control every value that could vary the results of an action.
For example, you might have brought the wrong script to your presentation and you can’t remember all the stuff written. That’s when improvisation come into play, since you can always create a brand-new script as you are presenting.
Quick thinking has always been a great helper for humanity since day 1. This allows us to have more time for execution when we decide everything straightaway and protect us. A great example of this could be hunting. If we took too long to decide on either shooting an animal or not, we could be the ones being hunted instead. Immediately shooting down enemies or leaving the site would protect us.
Ms. Riddel, our drama teacher from Palmer, often let the students to improvise on stage as the show goes. She enjoys it more than scripted scenes because it allows students to come up with their own stories and showcase their creativity.
To the students, improvisation is an enjoyable but difficult thing to learn within the class. They tell us when you are elite at improvisation, life become easier, which I think is absolutely right. So, if you have some extra time, try learning some improvisation skills, it’d help you a lot.
